298 – Space: 1999 – The Troubled Spirit

“The ghost of a man comes back to haunt himself before he has died.  What’s that all about?”

Ben and Eugene try to make sense of the Troubled Spirit.

  1. A silly silly episode, but always enjoyable. The stars here are the lighting and music, with the cast coming a distant third. I especially like the long single takes through the connected Alpha sets. It lends a nice physicality to Alpha.

Guest starring Anthony Nicholls, in a thankless role as Dr Warren. He’s perhaps better known as Tremayne, the Geneva-based boss of “The Champions”. I don’t know how many times I’d seen this episode before realising that.

The Euro guest stars add a plausible, international feel to Alpha – even if the accents are a bit spaghetti western and the acting clunky. They make a nice change from episodes of wall-to-wall Koenig.

Dr Mathias again helps morale by wheeling yet another corpse with a hideous rictus through the corridors of Alpha without a blanket over the body. I swear he’s trolling the other Alphans.
